Different Reasons for Treating

You don’t have to look far to find stereotypes about “dog people” versus “cat people.” Dog owners tend to think of themselves as more social and friendly, whereas cat owners think of themselves as independent and curious. And according to “Psychology Today,” there is actually some evidence to support these ideas. Consider the results from a recent online survey that asked participants whether they were dog people, cat people, neither or both, and then had them answer a survey about their personality traits:
Dog people were 15% more extroverted.
Cat people were 11% more “open,” meaning they had a better appreciation for emotion, art, adventure and imagination.
There are more dog people than cat people.
Cat owners are 33% more likely to live alone and twice as likely to live in an apartment rather than a house.
Given these differences, it’s not surprising that dog owners and cat owners have different reasons for giving their pets treats.

Reward

Dog owners are more likely to give rewards to their pets for performing a task they’re trying to teach. This is probably because it’s easier to train dogs to perform tricks or obey commands while cats show little interest in these activities, even when presented with a treat as a motivator.

Show Love

Cat people tend to give treats to show love, or to provide their cats with entertainment. This is particularly true for owners of indoor cats.
